DAY 12: The book of Dueteronomy contains reference to God's laws--His commands. It reminds us of the covenant God made with Israel in the wilderness which includes not only promise of blessings--but also of curses that accompany disobedience and rebellion.
1:8 "Behold, the land I have set before you, go in and possess the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers--Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them."
Verses 27 and 35 "And ye murmured in your tents...(35) Surely there shall not one of these men of this evil generation see that good land, which I sware to give unto your fathers."
God's promises are sure, He means business when He gives a promise, but He also keeps true to withholding blessings and promise from those who do not believe and rebel against Him.
Because of God's mercy, every opportunity is given to allow us to benefit from His promises and the blessings that come to those who follow His Word.
Deut. 4:9 "Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons sons."
Again, our responsibility is to pass on the whole Word to succeeding generations.
The entire 6th chapter gives direction regarding teaching our children the laws and commands of God. We are to speak of them when we tuck them in at night, when they get up in the morning, when we sit down to eat, when we take them places--everywhere we go and in everything we do. Teaching the ways of God to our children is to be an all-consuming thing--our main focus. It will reap results--as we live a life of obedience and service to Christ.
As we follow God's plan for raising children--found here in the 6th chapter of Deuteronomy--we can then claim the multiple promises for our children--those promises that we will continue to quote and comment on through this daily study.
We don't like to dwell on the other side of the promises...Chapter 27:26 "Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them..."
But lets close this blog on a positive note: Chapter 29:29 "The secret thing belong unto the Lord our God; but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law."
WOW! Those things revealed to us are ours, and our children, (forever). All we have to do is read and do God's commands, and teach them to our children. Thank you Heavenly Father for making a way for us and our posterity!
